History of Sacred Heart Church
YESTERDAY...

Sacred Heart Church of Oxford became a parish in 1915. Prior to that, it had been a mission church of Assumption B.V.M. parish in West Grove. For many years the church was located on Broad Street. The historic strength and vitality of our worshipping community is portrayed here in the simple beauty of our former Broad Street home and by the radiance of the sisters, the first communion class, and our third pastor, Fr. Patrick Dougherty (circa 1953). We stand on the shoulders of previous generations of Oxford Catholics, able to see a little farther because of their goodness and prayers.
TODAY...

By the late 1970s, the Sunday Masses were overflowing and the parish began to save money for a new, larger church. A capital campaign was launched and a new church built in 1983, with seating for 500. Our parish's mission statement proclaims that, "As the Catholic community dedicated to our patron, the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we represent and proclaim His Good News! We strive through our spiritual, social and moral lives to make Christ's presence visible to the world! We go forth in friendship and love-filled service to all our brothers and sisters."
TOMORROW...

Sacred Heart Church now looks forward to the exciting prospect of building a parish school. As the Lord provides for each of us during the stages of our life, so He provides for His Church as she matures and assumes greater responsibilities. Through the years we have been given much, and we respond to Christ's own donation of self by providing for future generations of Catholic youth in search of faith, respect, wisdom, and moral character.
